A new production of Carmen by Hugo de Ana will be staged in the Arena in 2018

2017 has been characterized by Nabucco by the director Arnaud Bernard. The Arena now intends present a new production for the masterpiece of Bizet. There are a total of five operas scheduled for the 96th Arena Opera Festival –

Carmen by Georges Bizet revisited by the director Hugo de Ana will be the opening opera of the 96th edition of Arena Opera Festival. The Festival will take place from the 22nd of June to the 1st of September 2018 hosting 47 shows performed both by the core artistic company of the Arena and other worldwide famous performers.

Within the playbill there will be Nabucco by Giuseppe Verdi under the direction of Arnaud Bernard following the 2017’s summer production. It was successfully staged 12 times with a total of 94.968 spectators.

2018’s program presents the following operas: Carmen, Nabucco, Aida by Giuseppe Verdi, Turandot by Giacomo Puccini and Il Barbiere di Siviglia by Gioachino Rossini. Roberto Bolle and Friends on the 25th of July and the Special Opera Night on the 26th of August are two extra shows that will bring even more value to the rich schedule of the Festival.

The Festival will start on the 22nd of June with Carmen, staged for a total of 13 evenings on the 29th of June, 6th-11th-17th-21st of July, 3rd-9th-12th-22nd-25th-28th-31st of August.

On the 23rd of June there will be the debut of the emblem of the Opera: Aida. It is scheduled for 16 evenings with the 2002 set created by Franco Zeffirelli. Encore performances will be on the 28th of June, 8th-10th-14th-19th-23rd-29th of August and 1st of September. Turandot with Franco Zeffirelli’s interpretation will be staged on the 30th of June and on the 5th-13th-18th-26th of July. Nabucco will show on the 7th -12th-20th-28th of July and the 10th-18th of August. Last but not least, Il barbiere di Siviglia under the direction of Hugo de Ana is scheduled for the 4th-8th-17th-24th-30h of August.
